1. Study a Master degree in Computational Engineering (COM) at VGU and you will:

  • Have the ability to solve complex engineering problems with the aid of computers and advanced methods. The COM master degree offer students the three essential areas:

    • Modelling of real world phenomena such as the mathematical description of balance laws for solids and fluids, non-linear material models or advanced subjects such as the propagation of cracks or fatigue problems.

    • Implementation in software systems such as Ansys, Mathematica or Matlab to gain hands-on experience and develop their own software systems in the future.

    • Understanding, interpreting and assessing simulation results is the most important to support the decision making or conclusion.

3. Curriculum/Program Structure:

  • Award: Master of Science in Computational Engineering 

  • Double degree from Vietnamese-German University (VGU) and Ruhr-University Bochum (RUB), Germany.

  • Full-time | 2 Years | 4 semesters | Includes three semesters of coursework and one semester of master thesis.

  • Total 120 ECTS Credit points: 90 ECTS Credit points come from coursework and 30 ECTS Credit points come from master thesis.

  • The German accreditation organization ASIIN has granted the Computational Engineering program accreditation.

  • Introduction to Computational Science and Engineering

  • Mathematical Aspects of Differential Equations and Numerical Methods

  • Mechanics of Solids 

  • Thermo-Fluid Dynamics 

  • Variational Calculus and Tensor Analysis 

  • Engineering Design and CAD Modelling

Semester 2:

  • Finite Element Methods in Linear Structural Mechanics 

  • Computational Thermo-Fluid Dynamics

  • Continuum Mechanics 

  • Computational Dynamics 

  • Numerical Methods and Stochastics 

  • Material Modelling and Simulation

Semester 3:

  • Modern Programming Concepts in Engineering 

  • Verification, Validation, and Uncertainty Quantification

  • Advanced Finite Element Methods 

  • Meshfree Particle Methods 

  • Technical Communication for Academic Study

Semester 4:

  • Master thesis

4. Admission requirements:

Are you qualified? Please check the admission requirements as below:

Applicants are required to hold a bachelor’s degree of  Applied Mathematics, Applied Physics, or Engineering or related Engineering fields; with a minimum GPA of 6.5/10 or more.

What do I need to prepare?

  • Bachelor's degree, Bachelor’s academic transcripts

  • English certificates, IELTS or TOEFL (if any)

5. Scholarships:

  • Merit scholarship: The VGU Talent Scholarship is one of the most prestigious studies at the Vietnam-German University (VGU). This scholarship is awarded to both successful candidates and current students at VGU, based on academic performance or outstanding academic results. Talent scholarships are awarded to 30% of students at the school, not limited to faculty/disciplines 

  • WUS Scholarship:  provide financial support to students with good academic records and difficult economic circumstances. Scholarship sponsored by the Hessen State Department of Economy, Energy, Transport, and Regional Development (HMWEVL)

  • VGU Friendship Association Scholarship, which is supported by the VGU Friendship Association and sponsored by the Hessen State Department of Economy, Energy, Transport and Development (HMWEVL).

  • The German Academy Exchange Agency (DAAD) scholarship, aimed at promoting student and scientist exchange programs in Germany.
